Title: Oil Portrait of William H.Taft
Description: Anders L. Zorn painted this portrait of President Taft seated in the Blue Room in his third year in office. President Taft loved the outdoors and would take long boat rides on the presidential yacht, the Sylph. His administration was the first to use cars at the White House instead of horse-drawn carriages. While in office, President Taft signed the 16th amendment instituting income tax, supported legislation for the direct election of Senators, and created the Committee of Efficiency and Economy to reform government practice.
