Picturing the President's House: WILLIAM HOWARD TAFT

graphic detail

Title: White House in the Snow

Description: Because of the extensive renovation project completed under Theodore Roosevelt, President and Mrs. Taft did little to alter the White House, pictured here in the snow. Taft did expand the 1902 Executive Office Building by adding the original Oval Office and more reception rooms. He also tried to install air conditioning, but the system of blowing air past ice to cool the building never worked well.

Date: 1911
